Germany sends military aid package to Ukraine

Germany has provided Ukraine with a military aid package that includes two Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition, among other equipment.

Germany has handed over a new military aid package to Ukraine to help strengthen the country's security forces in these challenging times. The package includes two Gepard self-propelled air defence systems and 6,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as 5 vehicles for border guards, 29 power generators, six trucks with hook loading systems, six mobile antenna systems and 10 containers. In addition to the aforementioned equipment, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius also announced that 14 Leopard 2 tanks will be delivered by the end of March 2021.

Ukraine's Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov welcomed the news after meeting with Pistorius on February 7 in Kyiv, where they discussed further cooperation between their respective defence ministries.

Boris Pistorius - Boris Pistorius has served as Federal Minister of Defence since 2018 in Chancellor Angela Merkel's government in Germany. Previously, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) from 2011 to 2013 and Vice President of the FDP from 2013 to 2017, respectively, before becoming Federal Minister of Defence in Merkel's 4th cabinet in 2018 to the present day.

Oleksiy Reznikov - Oleksiy Reznikov is currently the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine responsible for social policy since 2020, appointed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after briefly serving as Prime Minister from May 8, 2019 to August 29, 2019, replacing Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, who recently resigned and was appointed Vice President just before his resignation.
