The myth of coffee after waking up is busted: scientists reveal an unexpected truth

Scientists studying the effects of caffeine on the human body have debunked the myth that is widespread on social media about the need to give up coffee in the first 90-120 minutes after waking up. According to experts, although delaying the consumption of the drink may have certain benefits, there is currently no sufficient scientific evidence to support this theory.
This was reported by The New York Times. Marilyn Cornelis, a caffeine expert and researcher at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, explains that caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors, a substance that makes you feel tired and drowsy.
According to Michael Grandner, head of the sleep research program at the University of Arizona, the effect of vigor after drinking coffee usually occurs in 20-30 minutes.
Dr. Cornelis emphasizes that the reaction to caffeine is individual for each person, so there is no single ideal time to drink it.
For some people, one cup of coffee in the morning is enough, while others need another serving a few hours later, the expert notes.
US Army neuroscientist Allison Brager emphasizes that for certain professions, such as the military, firefighters, or surgeons, delaying the consumption of morning coffee may even carry risks. Studies show that caffeine has a positive effect on concentration and physical endurance.
In addition, experts have refuted the common perception that coffee in the morning disrupts the natural process of waking up. Studies have confirmed that in people who regularly consume caffeine, it has almost no effect on cortisol levels in the morning.
Experts recommend refraining from consuming caffeine 6-8 hours before bedtime, and if you have difficulty falling asleep, 8-12 hours before. If the need for caffeine persists throughout the day, you should consult a sleep doctor, as this may indicate sleep disorders such as insomnia or apnea.
