What good is a high-resolution monitor if it's covered in fingerprints and dust that obstruct your vision? There's no need to spend money on specialized computer cleaners. You can use common household items to easily restore your screen to its original state, and it will quickly return to its original condition.

However, it is important to be careful when cleaning the screen to avoid damage. UAportal provides all the details on how to clean your PC display properly.

How not to clean your computer screen

Before you start cleaning the screen, read a few important prohibitions.

  • Always use a slightly moistened wipe to wipe the screen. A heavily dampened cloth can cause moisture to penetrate and damage the screen.

  • Avoid using cleaners that contain alcohol or ammonia, as they can be aggressive to the surface of the monitor.
  • Window cleaners or polishes are also not suitable for displays, as they can leave streaks and scratches.
  • Using kitchen towels or sponges is not recommended because of their roughness, which can leave scratches and fibers on the screen.
  • Also, do not try to remove large particles of dirt with your fingernails.

How to clean your PC screen correctly

Before you start cleaning, be sure to unplug your computer or laptop from the power outlet to prevent the risk of electric shock.

Use a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to gently remove dust from the display surface. Cotton swabs are useful for cleaning corners and other hard-to-reach places.

Start wiping the screen from top to bottom to avoid spreading dirt. Avoid circular motions, which can only smear it.

If you notice stubborn dirt or fingerprints on the screen, use a mild solution made from distilled water and vinegar in a 1 to 1 ratio. Apply it to a cloth and then gently wipe the screen. Avoid applying the solution directly to the monitor to avoid causing damage due to excess moisture.
