The mayor of the French capital, Anne Hidalgo, has recently spoken out against allowing Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in her city.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has recently spoken out against allowing Russian athletes to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in her city. Last month, she argued that such athletes should not be excluded from the competition. However, due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Hidalgo said that "it is impossible to hold a parade as if nothing is happening" and expressed disagreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) if it does not change its mind on the issue.

Polish Sports Minister Kamil Bortnichuk noted that about 40 countries around the world oppose the inclusion of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the 2024 programme in Paris. The IOC has created a roadmap for this idea.

Anne Hidalgo is a French politician who has been the mayor of Paris since 2020. During her tenure as mayor, she has championed environmental policies, including plans to install electric vehicle charging points in various parts of the city by 2021. In addition, she also strongly opposed gentrification projects, which involved replacing low-income housing with luxury apartments, during her tenure. Her public opposition to allowing Russians to compete in next year's Olympic Games underscores her commitment to standing up to foreign aggression against sovereign states like Ukraine, while protecting the integrity of sport around the world - a stance that is truly admirable!
