A 1700-year-old trident used for fishing found in Turkey: photo
Archaeologists working in the ancient city of Assos in northwestern Turkey have discovered an ancient iron trident. Preliminary estimates suggest that this artifact is about 1700 years old and was used for fishing in ancient times.
The find was discovered during archaeological excavations in the area of the fountain known as Nymphaeon.

A group of archaeologists led by Professor Nurettin Arslan from Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University is studying archaeological sites in Assos with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Historical Society.
The discovery of the iron trident is of great interest to scientists, as iron artifacts are rarely preserved in ancient cities due to the rapid decay of this material.
Such tools were widely used in ancient times to catch large fish in the sea. Fishermen would set out on small boats at night, lighting their way with torches.
The origin of this iron trident remains a mystery. Iron could have been made in different places, but archaeologists suggest that this tool was probably made in this ancient city.
