Police catch "black archaeologists" on the territory of the Kakhosurevka Reservoir looking for treasures despite explosives
In Dnipropetrovs'k region, police officers are ensuring security on the shallow banks of the Kakhovka Reservoir. In order to prevent the danger of walking on the shrunken bottom, which can lead to getting under fire or to unexploded ordnance, 18 patrols and four observation posts are already in place in Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih districts.
The police have taken on the task of supervising the desert that the reservoir banks have turned into. Their duties include protecting the coast and preventing unauthorized excavations.
After the russian terrorist attack on the hydroelectric power plant, when the water began to recede, local residents began to actively explore the bottom. They searched for treasures with metal detectors and showed their findings on social media. Among them were old dishes, jewelry, weapons, and household items that had been submerged underwater for many decades. These findings encouraged more and more "black archaeologists" to dive to the bottom, despite the risks of shelling and the presence of unexploded ordnance in the silt.
In addition, there are flooded houses and churches at the bottom of the reservoir, testifying to the tragic losses caused by construction in the past. Historical evidence of ancient villages and Cossack sich settlements that disappeared under water during the construction of the Kakhovka reservoir is a source of curiosity among local residents.
The police are also taking on the responsibility of fighting illegal fishing and its distribution. They are stepping up control at checkpoints to prevent the illegal transportation of fish and seafood to markets and shops.
Walking and traveling along the coast, going out on the water, taking pictures of the shore, and filming videos are prohibited. Violators are handed over to investigative authorities by the police. Several dozen people have been detained in Nikopol district alone.
Earlier, the Ministry of Health gave advice on how to make dirty water drink able.
