How to speed up your computer on Windows

You might mistakenly think that your Windows computer or laptop is slow to start because of its age, and thus needs an upgrade. But in fact, the reason for the slow startup may be a mess in the list of programs that automatically start when you turn on the device. This problem can be solved, and it will not only speed up the startup process, but also free up resources for faster system performance. We will tell you how to do it below.

Fixing this problem does not require the use of third-party paid programs. All you need to do is go to Windows Settings. This is where you can determine which programs should start automatically.

Here's how to disable startup programs:

  1. In Windows 10 or 11, click the Start button and select the Settings icon;
  2. In the window that opens, go to the Programs section and open Startup;
  3. Uncheck the programs that you do not want to start automatically when you turn on your computer.

What should I look for when disabling startup programs?

Experts recommend paying attention to programs that don't need to run in the background all the time, as well as those that have a big impact on computer performance. They are the first candidates for disabling because they are likely to slow down your PC at startup.

For example, you can disable Microsoft Edge and various messengers that won't send you notifications until you open them.

Even if a program isn't labeled "high performance impact," you can still disable it if you don't need it to start automatically.

If you're worried about disabling something important, don't worry, the system won't let you disable essential components. In addition, even if you disable something, but later realize that you still need it, you can go back to the settings and re-enable the desired program.

To do this, simply repeat the previous steps: "Settings > Programs > Startup", and there you can enable or disable the program as needed.
