A group of underwater archaeologists recently found ancient Egyptian artifacts that have been under the waters of the Nile since the 1960s and 1970s.

These relics, which have remained hidden since the area was flooded due to the construction of a large-scale dam, open up new perspectives for understanding Egypt's rich history, Popular Mechanics reports.

During the study of the Nile, the team discovered cave paintings depicting Egyptian rulers, accompanied by inscriptions. According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, these findings indicate the possibility of discovering new rock art and additional historical facts.

This expedition is the first to explore the rock formations under the Nile waters between the Aswan Reservoir and the High Dam. Due to the construction of the dam, many people were displaced and a large number of historical artifacts were submerged, and much of it has not yet been found, despite UNESCO's efforts.

Using modern techniques such as underwater scanning, photography, and photogrammetry, the research team recorded carvings depicting several prominent Egyptian pharaohs, including Amenhotep III, Thutmose IV, Psamtik II, and Apris. These rulers made a significant contribution to the history of Egypt, and their reigns influenced the development of the country's architecture and culture.

Although the discovered inscriptions are still being studied, the team of scientists intends to create 3D models of the carvings for detailed analysis. This discovery not only highlights the historical importance of this region, but also opens up prospects for new archaeological research in the underwater depths of the Nile.
