Satellites will start falling to Earth: what to expect from the ''solar maximum'' in 2025

The Sun has periods known as "solar maximum". The new peak of solar activity is expected to occur in 2025. This solar maximum will be more powerful than the previous one, so much so that residents of non-polar regions will be able to observe the aurora borealis. In addition, an increase in solar activity will negatively affect the operation of electronic devices.

This is reported by ScienceAlert.

Scientist Matthew Owens from the University of Reading, UK, claims that satellites in orbit and astronauts on two space stations may be affected by increased solar activity: ISS and Tiangong.

Powerful solar flares emit a lot of energy that reaches the Earth and the space around it. Radiation of this magnitude is very dangerous for the health of astronauts and airplane passengers. In addition, solar energy can disrupt the operation of equipment on orbital stations and spacecraft and stop the operation of satellites, which can cause them to fall into the Earth's atmosphere.

Increased solar radiation will not affect human health. We can thank the ozone layer and the Earth's magnetic field for this. But for power systems, the solar influence is very negative: up to long power outages in different parts of the Earth.

As a reminder, we have already written about the threat of global warming to the planet.
