Let these tips, collected by Morning in the Big City, help you enjoy real and natural chocolate.

  1. Check the chocolate's composition. Real chocolate should contain ingredients such as cocoa butter and cocoa mass, which are the main components that make chocolate genuine. Avoid products in which cocoa butter is replaced with palm fat and cocoa mass is replaced with cocoa powder, as these substitutions may indicate a counterfeit product.
  2. Before making a purchase, check if the chocolate complies with state standards. The packaging should bear the mark DSTU 3924-2000, ensuring that the product's composition matches what is indicated on the package.
  3. Quality chocolate typically features a shiny, even surface and uniform color. The presence of a white coating on the surface may suggest improper storage but does not necessarily affect the taste and quality of the product.
  4. If you take high-quality chocolate without impurities, it will begin to melt in just a few minutes in your hands. However, if it becomes soft instantly, it may indicate improper temperature control during production.
  5. Sound is another way to assess the quality of chocolate. Simply break off a piece while holding the bar to your ear. If you hear a loud, resonant crunch, it's a good sign. A quiet and dull sound may indicate the presence of harmful fats and sugars.
  6. Real chocolate should melt in your mouth without leaving a greasy aftertaste or the sensation of having consumed a lot of dough-like substances.
