How to preserve vitamins in rose hips: rules for brewing infusion
As winter approaches, it is very important to collect, prepare and preserve rose hips - the fruits of this wonderful plant, which serve as a rich source of healthy substances. However, there is often confusion about the correct methods of preparation.
Some advise to boil the fruit, while others suggest steaming to preserve the necessary nutrients and vitamins. UAportal looks into this issue to determine the most effective approach.
First of all, it is important to emphasize that rose hips are rich in vitamin C, which makes them extremely valuable for fighting colds and strengthening immunity. They also contain key B vitamins such as B1, B2 and B6, as well as vitamins K, PP and E.
This nutrient-rich composition makes rosehips especially recommended for overcoming avitaminosis. In addition, these berries contain important minerals such as potassium, magnesium, iron and sodium, which contribute to optimal heart and vascular function. In addition, rose hips have diuretic, choleretic, anti-inflammatory and styptic properties.
Considering the ways of preparing drinks based on rose hips, the question often arises: is it necessary to crush dried fruits?
Experts mostly agree that it does not matter much, since you can use both whole and crushed berries. However, it is important to know that the fine hairs of rose hips can potentially irritate the stomach if swallowed, which can pose a health risk.

To avoid this problem, it is recommended to place the chopped fruits in a canvas bag and use it to soak them during the cooking process.
When it comes to choosing the cooking method, you should know that boiling can lead to significant loss of nutrients. Because of this, steaming is often considered the best approach. To do this, the berries should be placed on a water bath.
Start by pouring a tablespoon of pre-crushed fruits with a glass of boiling water, and then stand on a water bath for 15 minutes under a lid. After that, allow the mixture to cool down before straining it for consumption.
However, an even better alternative is using a thermos to steam the berries. Filling the berries in the thermos with boiling water - in the same ratio - and leaving it overnight, you can enjoy the resulting drink in the morning by straining it through a sieve. It is important that the remaining berries in the thermos can again be poured with boiling water, repeating this process up to 3 times.
