Anyone who prepares food can experience salt caking over time. This unpleasant moment can create additional difficulties when cooking. However, there is an easy way to avoid this by using a product that is available in every kitchen.

The secret to preventing salt from sticking together is to use cereals that you may have at hand, Ukr.Media writes.

A lump in the salt can form due to high humidity in the room. In cooking, it is difficult to do without water vapour, which is formed during cooking.

How to avoid salt clumping

One of the best options is to use plain rice. Add a few grains of raw rice to the salt shaker. The rice will absorb excess moisture. Discard the moistened rice and add dry rice to prevent further clumping. The rice grains should be larger than the opening in the salt shaker so they do not fall out with the salt.

Remember to store it properly. Keep the salt shaker away from moist sources such as the sink or stove. Ideally, store the salt in a dry, ventilated area in another corner of the kitchen.

If the salt does clump, you can return it to its crumbly state:

Put the salt in a cloth bag or pillowcase and rub it with your hands. Use a small hammer or kitchen mallet for particularly stubborn clumps. You can also heat the salt to 100 degrees in the oven for a few minutes until it reaches the desired consistency. Leave the salt to cool before use.
