Yellow leaves on tomatoes: what to do about it

Caring for tomatoes is a complex and responsible process. However, the leaves of the plant can begin to turn yellow even with the best care.

Nevertheless, UAportal will share with you methods that will help fix this problem.

The reasons for the yellowing of tomato leaves can be varied. For example, damaged plant roots can be the result of pests or a mistake when transplanting seedlings. In this case, the leaves begin to turn yellow as the plant focuses all its energy on repairing the root system. After the recovery process is complete, the color of the leaves will return to green.

Insufficient nutrients, such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, can also cause yellowing of the leaves. Insufficient nutrition can be the result of untimely fertilization or insufficient soil fertility.

Tomatoes also react to a lack or excessive amount of water. If the plant is faced with a lack of moisture, the leaves turn yellow, curl, and fall off. On the other hand, excessive watering can also lead to yellowing of the leaves, as it causes insufficient nitrogen absorption.

Exposure to hot sunlight can also harm the plant, leading to yellowing of the leaves. It is recommended to provide shade for tomatoes during the first weeks in severe heat.
