For the first time ever, Canadian researchers have recorded the brain activity of a person at the moment of death, which has provided new insights into possible last thoughts before death. The study was conducted on an 87-year-old patient who suffered from epilepsy and unexpectedly died of a heart attack during the research. The results of electroencephalography (EEG) recorded changes in brain activity 30 seconds before and after cardiac arrest.

The study revealed an increase in the so-called "gamma oscillations" responsible for the recovery of memories and dreams. This may indicate that the patient was experiencing memories of important moments in his or her life just before death. The study, published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, says that the theory that life "flashes before your eyes" before death may be true.

Dr. Ajmal Zemmar, the lead author of the study, explained that these results may call into question our understanding of the moment when life ends, as well as raise new questions about the timing of organ donation. However, the scientist emphasizes that the data relate to only one case, so further research is needed to draw more conclusive conclusions, LADbible writes.

Similar changes in brain activity have previously been observed in rats during death, but this is the first time such changes have been recorded in humans. Although this case is unique, experts cannot say that similar processes would occur in the brains of other dying people.

It should also be borne in mind that the patient's brain was damaged by epilepsy, which could have affected the results. However, the study still opens up new horizons in the study of what happens to the human brain at the time of death.

Dr. Zemmar noted that even when a person physically dies, their brain can "replay" some of the best moments of life, which gives a new perspective on near-death experiences.
