Having a good memory is important, and the good news is that there's an easy way to achieve it, even easier than you might imagine. This unusual bedtime habit may be more beneficial than you think.

Essential oils are multifaceted health aids. In addition to their ability to calm you down, they can help improve your memory. Recent research suggests that older adults who inhale essential oils before bedtime show more than 200% improvement in cognitive tests. This was reported by Everyday Health.

It turns out that using an essential oil diffuser can be a simple and effective way to improve memory and cognitive abilities without much effort. This habit can also serve as a defence against possible dementia. Just six months of aromatherapy was enough to see results.

It turned out that the sense of smell plays an important role in expanding and strengthening memory. When the sense of smell is impaired, the areas of the brain responsible for memory begin to deteriorate, the author of the study Michael Leon explained.

The study participants inhaled aromatic oils during the first two hours of sleep. Seven different scents were used over six months, including rose, orange, lemon, mint, eucalyptus, rosemary and lavender.

At the beginning and end of the experiment, participants were tested, including a list of words commonly used to assess memory and verbal learning. Participants improved their scores by 226% after just six months.
