Thunderstorm and rain on Easter: what folk omens say

Since ancient times, Easter has been associated with many traditions and beliefs. UaPortal wants to share with you the Easter omens that our ancestors believed in.

Christians believed that on Easter the sun "plays" with colors: it changes shades from orange to red. They believed that if you notice the moment of color change, the whole year will pass happily.

Many beliefs were associated with the weather:

- Thunder or snowfall on Easter foretold a good harvest of flax.

- The cold weather on Bright Easter meant that it will be cold for the next seven days off.

- If someone wanted to learn some kind of work, he had to come to church on the first day of Easter, and when the priest first says: "Christ is risen!", quietly say: if he wants to learn to sew, "needle in hand"; tinker - "axe in hand" etc.

- Unmarried girls had to say about themselves during the Easter service: "Resurrection of Christ! Send me a single bridegroom!"

- They believed that if a child was born on Easter, then glory awaits him.

- He who was born in Easter week will be healthy.

- To hear a cuckoo on Easter - to a new addition to the family, and if a young girl heard the bird, then she will soon get married.
