Archaeologists from the French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP) have made a fascinating discovery on the west coast of Corsica - an archaeological site that turned out to be an ancient cemetery with more than forty burials dating back to the first half of the first millennium.

This is reported by the Daily Mail.

The cemetery was located in the city of Il-Rusi.

One of the features of this cemetery is that most of the burials were large amphorae instead of ordinary coffins. These amphorae were so large that they could hold human bodies. Usually, such vessels were used to transport liquid and bulk goods by sea.

Some burials were also discovered in which the coffins were reinforced with improvised materials, such as tiles, which indicates care and attention to the funeral process.

Scientists have suggested that the age of the complex could be as old as 1700 years.

As a reminder, 7000-year-old stone structures were found in Saudi Arabia.
