Bronze Age treasure with luxurious women's jewelry found in Sweden

Swedish cartographer Thomas Karlsson found a Bronze Age treasure dating back to about 2500 years while preparing for an orienteering event in a forest 50 km from Gothenburg.

The hoard includes about 50 items, including necklaces, bracelets and clothing pins.

"At first I thought it might be a lamp but when I looked closely I saw that it was ancient jewelry," Karlsson says.

The items were in such good condition that he thought they were modern copies but decided to consult with archaeologists just in case.

It is noted that the earth was most likely turned over by animals, which is why some of the things came to the surface.

Archaeologists date the treasure to the period between 750 and 500 BC. The found items were made for women who had a high status in the society of the time. Most likely, the items were left as a sacrifice to the gods.

Such a treasure is considered rare, as was used as a sacrifice to throw into rivers or swamps.
