Newspapers will come in handy: gardeners share a cheap way to control weeds

Weeds can grow wherever there is space in the garden, meaning they can appear in flower beds, as well as on patios and gravel. Experienced gardeners have several ways to get rid of them.

In particular, you can use old newspapers. This is reported by Express.co.uk.

Newspapers can be used as a cheap and effective way to stop weed growth. It is also a phenomenal light blocker, and the paper is biodegradable, so it is harmless to the environment.

You just need to put the newspaper on the desired area, making sure that all the edges overlap and leave no gaps. Then water the newspaper to help it stay put.

Gardeners should also add a layer of mulch on top and water thoroughly. This will help provide the soil underneath with moisture. However, newspapers tend to decompose within a few weeks and need to be replaced.

Using boiling water is also a great way to kill weeds, but it should only be used for paving stones as it will kill all other plants.
