Ingredients (for about 500 g of apple butter):

  • 1 kg of apples
  • 1 large lemon
  • 50 g sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • cinnamon stick or ground cinnamon
  • water (to taste)

Preparation:

  1. Wash and peel apples. Remove the core and cut into small pieces.
  2. Take a sufficiently large saucepan and put the chopped apples, grated lemon zest, grated ginger, and sugar (if using) in it.
  3. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to a minimum as soon as the mixture comes to a boil
  4. Cook for an hour, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  5. When the consistency becomes thick, turn off the heat.
  6. If you used cinnamon sticks, remove them. Do the same if you add vanilla pods or cloves.
  7. Grind the mass with an immersion blender.
  8. Pour the apple butter into pre-sterilized jars and, when it has cooled, close the lids.

Now you have a wonderful apple butter that can be used as a common filling for waffles, pies, cookies, and as a natural sweetener for hot drinks such as tea or milk.

Remember that this butter can also be used in various cooking dishes or as a flavoring addition. Enjoy the taste of your own cooked apple butter!
