Avoid using chlorine

When choosing detergents in the supermarket, you should avoid products that contain ammonia and bleach. While these products are effective in disinfecting and helping to keep the kitchen clean, they can be harmful to your health. For example, chlorine gas can be dangerous if inhaled. In addition, such products have a negative impact on the environment, as they are washed down the drain and can harm wildlife.

Use regular cleaning products

Instead of using pesticides, you can use ingredients that you already have in your kitchen to make environmentally friendly cleaning products. For example, baking soda, distilled white vinegar, or lemon can help get rid of grease residue. Essential oils such as eucalyptus, lavender, or olive can be useful for cleaning more delicate surfaces such as stone or wood. A plant-based liquid soap can be a great alternative to all-purpose floor cleaners.

Forget about hand washing

There is a perception that dishwashers are harmful to the environment because of their use of electricity and water. But in reality, this is not the case. According to rough estimates, a dishwasher uses about 40 liters of water, while washing dishes by hand takes almost 73 liters of water. This is a saving of up to 33.5 liters of water compared to washing dishes in the sink.

The same applies to electricity consumption: washing dishes by hand requires 2.60 kW of energy per wash, while the dishwasher consumes only 0.67 kW per cycle. This helps you save 1.93 kW. Not only does it help you save money, but it's also good for the environment.

Make your own cleaning agent

To make an eco-friendly and versatile cleaner, simply mix baking soda with a vegetable-based liquid soap to a paste. Then apply some of the paste to half a lemon and you can clean your kitchen surfaces or wooden utensils.

To make an eco-friendly floor cleaner, mix 1/8 cup of vegetable-based liquid soap, 1/8 cup of distilled white vinegar, 4.5 liters of water, and 10 drops of essential oil. It's quite easy and also saves you money because homemade cleaning products are much cheaper than factory-made ones.
